About Us - Man's Best Friend

Family Owned and Operated Since 1980

Man’s Best Friend was founded on the simple premise of creating an environment to help families and dogs lead fun and fulfilling lives cohesively together. With training over 75,000 dogs and helping save thousands of dogs from being returned to the pound, they have done just that!
Man’s Best Friend was founded in July 1980 in Houston, Texas by the Bolander family. Their vision was to offer dog and owners a unique dog training center, providing personal assistance to each customer. Obedience, behavioral problem solving, and personal family protections services were now available in a private environment with programs designed to fit each customers specific goals and each dogs personality. Becoming the leader in the dog training industry was not accomplished over night however with hard work and perseverance the Bolander’s have accomplished their dream! In 1988 Man’s Best Friend expanded to the Dallas / Ft. Worth metroplex with the opening of its first store in Grand Prairie, Texas. They now have 6 locations and employ over 100 people collectively.

Our HYBRID Style of Training:

Most people believe there are two styles of training, positive treat based training, and /or, negative punishment training. In fact, there are over 20 plus forms in which you can train a dog. Over the years, with due diligence, research, trial and error, Man’s Best Friend has developed a HYBRID style of training that not only has revolutionized the dog training industry but has transformed the owner and dog relationship!

Our method of training is simple, it is affection based communication and relationship training. We focus on several items:
Communication through obedience training
Behavioral Problem Solving
Technical Application of behavioral problem solving
Technical Application of obedience commands

What sets us apart from the rest is simple; we do not put a mask or put a band aid on behaviors such as jumping and chewing etc. We get to the core of the problem, we focus on where and/or why the anxiety is happening, once we get to the root of the problem then we are able to provide guidance and obedience training as well as support to each family and each situation! We bridge the gap between dog and owner. It’s that simple!

  • "I had my dog trained here almost 4 years ago and the training has stuck. These guys are really good and very attentive. I kennel my dog there when I take long vacations because they train him while he stays there. I couldn't be more happier"
    Chad B.
  • "I had my dogs trained here a year ago.  They training went very well and I wanted to continue to build on it but I moved.  I tried a new place and the training went well, but I love the attitude and friendliness of the staff at MansBest Friend.  They are awesome."
    S J.
  • "With Malcolm holding the leash, Biskit responds to every command. When I take over how ever the results vary. Luckily with the training I have received I feel confident that life is going be easier for both Biskit and I and that he will respect me like he does Malcolm."
