Put your pet in a yule mood
12-15-2009

It's all about props, patience and a bit of luck when it comes to capturing a great holiday photo of your pet.

Five tips for ensuring that festive shot:
•Props: Santa hats, sweaters, fancy collars, bows, Christmas stockings, ornaments and gift boxes are popular. Use them in different ways.

•Background: The fireplace, Christmas tree or even a blanket can serve as a backdrop. Be careful the background doesn't clash with your props.

•Enlist an elf: A helper to distract the pet and assist with prop changes makes life easier for the photographer.

•Take your time: Snap lots of photos and remember it may take 20 minutes to get one good shot.

•Keep your camera handy: If you catch your dog sleeping peacefully by the tree or cat looking longingly at the ornaments, that candid shot may be the best photo of the season
